Advanced examinations

Outpatient diagnostic hysteroscopy

Purpose

The uterus is where the embryo implantation takes place. Therefore, the implantation may be interfered by uterine lesions. Hysteroscopy examines the presence of polyps, myomas, adhesions, and so on within the uterus.

Timing

Within one week after menstruation.

Method

The hysteroscope used by the Center of Reproductive Medicine at CCH is a tiny (3mm) fiber optic lens, which goes through the vagina, the cervix, and enters into the uterus to image the inside condition. Due to the minimal size of the fiber optic lens, this examination does not require anesthesia and fasting. The patient may go home on the same day after the examination completes.

A gentle reminder

  • 1It is normal that there might be watery discharge or minimal bleeding after the examination. If bleeding heavily, please return and seek medical attention immediately.
  • 2The hysteroscopy examination may stimulate the secretion of the growth factors for the endometrium to facilitate the embryo implantation. Therefore, the examination may be scheduled in one to two months prior to the embryo implantation for the IVF procedure.
