Fertility Tests

Basic examinations

Semen examination

Purpose

To examine sperm motility, quantity, semen viscosity, etc.

Timing

Sexual abstinence for 2 to 7 days (more than 2 days and not exceeding 7 days).

Method

A semen sample should be collected by masturbation and ejaculation into the test box provided by the Center of Reproductive Medicine. Do not use a condom or lubricant during the collection.

A gentle reminder

  • 1Please note that the duration of sexual abstinence will affect the accuracy of the examination. Abstinence for less than 2 days may produce insufficient amounts of sperm, whereas abstinence for over 7 days may reduce sperm motility.
  • 2After being prescribed for the examination at the outpatient clinic, please make an appointment for sample submission by phone (at 04-7238595 Ext 4622) three days in advance. The appointment windows for sample submission at the Center of Reproductive Medicine are 0830-1100AM and 0100-0330PM from Monday to Friday. The service is closed in the evening and on Saturday.
  • 3There are semen collection rooms located at the Center of Reproductive Medicine. The sample may be collected at the Center and delivered within one hour after collection.
