The International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) has set up the WELL Building Standard in 2014. This is the first standard established according to the effect of architectural environments on human health, which requires scientific review, industrial review and medical review by experts from all areas. In terms of the examination of architectural environments, the standard has been categorized into 7 criteria: air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort, and mind, which include 105 indicators. Furthermore, the standard has analyzed 11 physiological systems of the human body that may be affected by each indicator, and looked into the complex effects of architectural environments on the human body, mind, and soul from a medical perspective. The WELL Certification is divided into the platinum level, silver level, and gold level based on the number of indicators fulfilled. The gold level requires the achievement of 36 essential items and more than 25 advanced items.During the certification, committee members of the third country will perform the on-site inspection of the indoor and outdoor air quality, water quality, environmental illuminance and noise level. The collected water and air sample will be transferred to laboratories approved by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) for examination of pollutants. The process of determination is very practical and rigorous.
